Getting to Know Me

I'm Shawnna, I was born in a small town called Columbus, MT on the banks of the Yellowstone River.  Was raised there, until we moved in the second grade to Minnesota where I now live.  I miss the mountains and the beauty of Montana, but Minnesota has plenty of beautiful places too.  Growing up, I liked to write short stories, though I never let anyone read them.  I suppose that is why I've been wanting to start this blog lately.

This isn't a blog intended to teach, make profit or anything like that.  I'm hoping it will be something of a legacy for me to leave behind for family and friends.  I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer in March 2012.  I had no idea what was going on at the time, and every doctor I went to thought it was something else.  By the time they figured it out I was already Stage IV and it had spread up to my lungs.  At this point it is classified as a terminal cancer, and I have had to face the reality of it.  I've gone through chemotherapy, complete hysterectomy, even more chemotherapy, and radiation.

March 2017 brought me to the five year mark of this battle.  It also brought with it a very real wake up call.  The chemotherapy wasn't doing it's job, and the one they tried after that brought me crashing down.  I spent a month in the hospital fighting for my life, worrying the people who love and care for me.  Thankfully, I am one very stubborn girl and I fought my way back.  I spent another month in a Transitional Care Unit to regain the strength I had lost the previous month and was finally able to come home.  I now receive Hospice care in my home, and am continuing to fight back against this disease.

Little Bits of Me

I know a lot of people like to do those 100 things about me, but unless I have prompts for it I probably wouldn't be able to think of that many.  That and with some of the blog prompts I have tucked away for days when I can't think of what to write on my own there are plenty of questions that will give you some kind of idea of who I am.  Also, feel free to ask me anything at all in the comments.  I have no problems talking about the cancer or anything else really.  If it's a little to personal I'll try my best, but may avoid it.

Favorite Things

Colors are purple, silver and black.
Time of day would probably be late afternoon or evening.
I love rain and thunderstorms.
My family of course.
Place to be is home or out on a drive with my mother.
Place outdoors would definitely be the mountains.
I absolutely love all kinds of trivia style games.
I'm a total foodie, so it's hard to list just one favorite food.
Cats are by far my favorite animal, but I pretty much like all of them.
I love books, movies, music, and video games.

Things That I Don't Do Well With

I know they have their uses, but I hate spiders and most other bugs.
Being an introvert, I'm not of fan of huge crowds of people.
Extreme temperatures, I don't do well in either heat or cold.
People who lack common sense and courtesy.
Politics or anything to do with it.
Religion, more specifically when people tell you that yours is wrong and theirs is right.
Also safe to say I don't like it when someone tells you how to live your own life.
Weakness, my own that is. I am very much a control freak when it comes my body.
Not being able to do the things I used to do, before my cancer.
Emotions, I tend to bottle things and horde them.  Which happens to be another reason for this blog.
